Cancellation of School

School is closed due to weather when transportation conditions become hazardous, or if most of the townships' buses will not be operating.  If you feel that transporting your child/ren will be unsafe, even if we do not close school, please feel free to keep your child/ren at home.

The Head of School makes decisions regarding the cancellation of school and contacts the media.  This information will be posted on the LFS website.  The school's phone message will be revised to reflect any changes, as early as possible.  School closing information may also be found on

The mission of the Lansdowne Friends School Parent Group is to support the students, teachers and parents of the school by developing and implementing activities that build community and enrich the learning environment.  Included in these activites are fundraising events planned in conjuntion with the school's Development Office, eduational events for parents, and social events for both parents and students.

Parents help strengthen the school by sharing their skills and expertise and by volunteering time in the classroom or school community. Parent volunteers make a big difference in the LFS library, and at LFS events such as the annual Auction and the Book Fair.  Parents may make arrangements through the office to visit or volunteer in the classrooms.

All LFS parents are members of the Parent Group.  Much of the work of the Parent Group is done in small sub-committees.  Among their many activities, parents have organized class and all-school potluck suppers, Movie Nights and Swim Nights for LFS families, weekly pizza lunches for students, and the annual May Fair for LFS families and the wider community.
